Margie Belle Fowler was born August 15, 1915 near Cheyenne, OK to Henry Franklin Berry and Mary Eugenia Millard Berry and passed away Friday, May 2, 2014 in Sayre, OK at the age of 98 years, 8 months and 17 days. She was the youngest of six children. Margie’s parents divorced when she was very small, so there was hard times and several moves. At age five, they moved to Oklahoma City, OK where Margie started school. By the time she was thirteen, she and her mother moved near Midway, OK. where Margie was a star basketball player. There, she rode to school on a bus, where in the driver’s seat sat Alvin Snowden, who was also an outstanding basketball player. On October 12, 1924, Margie Belle and Alvin were married in Sayre, OK and raised five children. Margie Belle was a wonderful cook and famous for her pecan pies. She loved canning and making jelly, most of which she gave away. She was very generous, loving and always had a smile. She later worked as a waitress at Hamburger King and Cal’s Café where she inherited the nickname “Sunshine”. She also worked at the Oklahoma Information Center. In 1987, Margie began performing as “Minnie Pearl”. She performed for Roy Rogers and Dale Evans in their California home and also the Lieutenant Governor of Oklahoma and countless other events. She spent her life serving others including her large family, her church and anyone who needed encouragement. They were all precious to her and she enjoyed making them laugh. Margie Belle was preceded in death by her husbands, Alvin Snowden, Herbert Oren, and Roy Fowler, one grandson, Jamie Munford; and son-in-law Harold Hugg. She leaves behind a legacy as did the worthy woman in Proverbs 31. Her children rise up and call her blessed; She is survived by five children, Ava Jean Sailors and husband Zeb of Pampa, TX; Donna Mae Hugg of Shamrock, TX; Margie Alvinita North and husband Ben of Erick, OK; Rose Marie Munford of Elk City, OK; Ransom Snowden and wife Retta of Erick, OK. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 68 great grandchildren and 36 great-great grandchildren as well as a very special friend, Oleta Snow, and many other beloved relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Erick First Baptist Church. Burial will be at the Erick Cemetery under the direction of Fatheree-Albert Funeral Service.
