Alexander, Harmon E. “Shorty”

Harmon E. “Shorty” Alexander, age 66 of Clinton died October 6, 1977 in the Oklahoma City Veterans Hospital following an etended illness.
Memorial services were held in the Savasge Funeral Home in Elk Citgy, Saturday, October 8, 1977 Rev. Frank Scofield officiating. Mr. Alexander was buried in the Red Hill Cemetery at Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Savage Funeral Service.
Born March 30, 1911 in Roger Mills County Mr. Alexander lived in Roger Mills and Beckham Counties until his enlistment in the US Army in 1937. Following his two years enlistment, he served in the Hawaiian Islands and he transferred into the US Marine Corps. The next 18 years he served in the Asian-Pacific Campaign durin WWII and the Korean War. He received numerous awards and decoration and was medically retired with service connected injuries in 1957. The next ten years he was in the Marine Corps Reserve.
He married Lucille Thursby of Barstow, California in December 1949 who died of leukemia in 1951. Since his retirement in 1957 he had been in and out of VA hospitals with interim periods in convalescent and nursing homes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors are five sisters; Mrs. Lois Hester and Mrs. Belle Ackley of Sayre, Mrs. Truly Peterson of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Halcyon Henry of Joplin, Missouri; Mrs. Ara Foust of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
