Eldon Yates Boswell was born September 23, 1926, to William Thomas and Rosetta Hensley Boswell at their farm near Clifford, Oklahoma. He passed from this world on September 5, 2015, in the Sayre Memorial Hospital, Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 13 days.
Eldon grew up in Roger Mills County. He commenced his education at the Clifford schools and graduated from Strong City High School in May, 1945. He was drafted in the US Armed Services on January 9, 1945. After completion of basic training in Fort Hood, TX, he was allowed to return to Roger Mills County and graduate with his class while on delay in route to Fort Ord, CA. He served his country during the second World War in the Philippines and occupational forces in Japan. He was honorably discharged from the military on November 27, 1946.
Eldon married his loving wife of 63 years, Melba Ruth Burns, on August 19, 1952 and to this union they were blessed with two sons. Shortly after their union, the couple moved to Oregon, but they always dreamed of returning to Roger Mills County. After nine years in Oregon, their wish became reality as they were able to return to Western Oklahoma and enter into the dairy farm business. The family continues to operate a beef and wheat farm.
Eldon was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cheyenne, OK. He was ordained as a Deacon of the church on November 10, 1985. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter-in-law, Kim Boswell.
He is survived by his wife, Melba, of the home; two sons, Mark Boswell and wife, Debbie, of Cheyenne, OK and J.T. Boswell and wife, Lisa, of Edmond, OK; 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Nelda Davis of Strong City, OK and Wanda Purcell of Cheyenne, OK and a host of relatives and friends.
The family wishes to extend a special Thank You to Eldon’s dedicated Caregivers: Nancy Allen, Ruby McBrayer and Wanda Whitson.
Services were held at Cheyenne First Baptist Church on Thursday, September 10, at 2:00 p.m. with Stephen Clark officiating. Interment was in the Strong City Cemetery.
