Retired Washita County Sheriff Larry Burrows was born May 1, 1951 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Annie Esther and Robert Dalton Burrows. He returned to his Heavenly home March 16, 2014 at his home near Hammon, Oklahoma.
Larry’s passion and career in law enforcement was for 42 years. He retired as Washita County Sheriff in 2013. After retirement, he returned to work on the Centennial Family Farm near Hammon, Oklahoma.
Larry’s true personality and zest for life could be found in his hobbies and interests. They included hunting, riding horses, ranching, four wheeling, law enforcement, and collections of various sorts. Most of all he loved and enjoyed time with his family.
He received numerous awards in law enforcement during his career, including but not limited to Peace Officer of the Year.
Faith played an important role in his life. He had been attending Grandview Assembly of God Church in Elk City, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Cathy Ann Campbell and one brother, Dalton Burrows.
He is survived by his wife, Mira, of the home; three daughters, Cher Goodwin and husband, Billy, Clinton, OK, Charla Lambert and husband James, Headrick, OK, Cheryl Burrows and Jeff Wood, Hammon, OK; four grandchildren, Reece Lumpkin, Grant Lumpkin, Cori Lumpkin and Kenadi Goodwin; one sister, Teresea Chaney, Hammon, OK; sister-in-law, Carolyn Burrows, Hammon, OK; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Elk City First Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Mark Little. Burial will be at Kiowa Cemetery under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service. Condolences can be made online at whineryfs.com.
