Campbell, Kenneth Dale “Chub”

Kenneh Dale “Chuck” Campbell was born August 17, 1926 in Berlin, Oklahoma to Maude Nevada and Cliften Clark, Campbell. He passed away September 9, 2010 at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 84 years and 22 days.
Chub grew up and attended school at Berlin, Oklahoma. He was drafted into the United States Army where his deployment date was deferrred to finish his farm crop. Chuck spent his 18th birthday on a military ship in the Pacific Ocean. He served as a Master Sergeant in the motor pool in Hawaii during his time in the service. On his 21st birthday he returned to the states where he was discharged. He was married to Nelona (Barnes) Campbell at Elk City, Oklahoma on November 21, 1946. After their marriage, Chub and Nelona lived in Berlin and the surrounding areas while he worked as a large equipment operator and helped build sandstoine watershed dams, the airstrip at Burns Flat and Altus and oil field sites in the Oklahoma panhandle. In 1957 he was employed as a mechanic for the John Deere and International dealers in Cheyenne and in 1962 owned and operated the Berlin General Store. Even though Chub held various jobs he continued to do custom farm work and during one season he baled over 50,000 bales of hay in the Berlin Community alone. Besides enjoying custom farm work, Chub enjoyed woodworking, gardening and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, Ruby Klopfenstein, Ruth Olson, Myrtle Kockick and Hattie Tenbrook; 1 brother, John Campbell.
He is survived by his wife, Nelona Barnes Campbell; 3 children, Nelda Tucker and husband, Tommy, Sweetwater, Oklahoma; James Campbell and wife, DeLayne, Sayre, Oklahoma, Connie Whitmore and husband, Wayne, Coyle, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren, Lisa Bowman and husbsand, Greg, Perkins, Oklahoma, Monte Tucker and wife, Danielle, Sweetwater, Oklahoma, Ben Perkins, Sayre, Oklahoma, Jeremiah Campbell and wife, Lori, Arnett, Oklahoma, Jamey Campbell, Sayre, Oklahoma, Justin Whitmore, Perkins, Oklahoma, Carra Crow and husband, Brandon, Shawnee, Oklahoma; 9 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Audy Campbell and wife, Janis, Berlin, Oklahoma; 3 sisters, Freda Turbyfill, Madill, Oklahoma, Nadine Morgan and husband, Clyde, Elk City, Oklahoma, Iris Adams, Weatherford, Oklahoma; 1 sister-in-law, Myrtle Campbell, Berlin, Oklaho9ma and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held Monday, September 13, 2010 at Rose Chapel at 10:00 am officiated by Roger Klopfenstein and Shane Coleman. Burial will be at Berlin Cemetery under direction of Rose Chapel Funeral service, Sayre, Oklahoma. Condolences can be made online at www.whineryfs.com
