YOWELL, Bill

Bill Yowell was born December 13, 1930 in Hemphill County, Texas to Goldie and Lee Yowell. He passed away June 5, 2012 at Clinton, Oklahoma at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 22 days.
Bill moved with his family to Reydon where he attended school, graduating from Reydon high School in 1949. He continued his education at Sayre Junior College for two years where he was a member of the basketball team and then went on to Southwestern Oklahoma State College where he received his Bachelors Degree in Education. Bill was married to Edith L. Scott at Weatherford on October 16, 1952. Soon after the marriage, Bill joined the US Army and served his country during the Korean War. He completed his basic training in California before going to Korea where he was injured and awarded the Purple Heart. After his discharge in 1954, he returned to Roger Mills County where he began a distinguished career in education. In 1955 he taught and coached basketball at Durham School. In 1956, Bill and Edith moved to Reydon to make their home and Bill began teaching at Reydon School. He taught and coached basketball for many years. He later became the high school Principal and remained in that position until his retirement in 1986.
After his retirement, he remained in Reydoin where he spent his time raising cattle, quail hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
He is survived by his sons, Jimmy Yowell and wife, Darla, Reydon, OK and Jerry Yowell and wife, Carrie, Euless, TX; 6 grandchildren, Krista Hoffarth and husband, Kurt, Aurora, CO, Charity Timmens and husband, Brian, North Glenn, CO, Laura Rex and husband Tim, Schertz, TX, Jamie Yowell & finace’, Justin Koch, Colorado Springs, CO, Johnna Yowell, Euless, TX, Ethan Yowell, Euless, TX; 10 great grandchildren, his aunt, Doris Jean Batchelor, Cheyenne, OK and a host of other relatives and friends. Services will be held June 9, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Reydon Community Building officiated by Jimmy Yowell and Jerry Don Yowell.
