Von Holton, Wanda Marzelle Smith

Wanda Mazelle Von Holton, the only child of Clarence W. and Cecil Maud (Moore) Smith, was born September 16, 1927 in Leedey, Oklahoma. She passed away September 1, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a resident of Hayward, California at the time of her passing and was 84 years old.
As a child Wanda lived with her parents in Enid, OK, Wichita Falls, TX, and Denver, CO before finally settling in Oakland, CA in 1944. When she was 3 years old, it was discovered she had epilepsy. Because of her frequent seizures, she was home schooled. As a teenager, her favorite pastime was roller skating and she thoroughly enjoyed dance skating. When Wanda was in her 30’s epilepsey medication became available and her seizures were less frequent.
On May 10, 1973 Wanda married Henry Von Holton at the Lake Tahoe Chapel in Nevada. They enjoyed a happy life togethder until his unexpected death on March 11, 1976. Wanda was never able to work but did volunteer work at Goodwill. She attended church at Redwood Chapel in Castro Valley and the members were always good to take her out on her birthdays and holidays. Her caretaker, Ella Patterson, took her shopping, to various appointments and helped her in many other ways.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; her parents, C.W. and Cecil Smith; grandparents, Sheldon Howard and Gertrude Moore; uncles Roy and Lorrane Moore; aunts, Opal Pickens, Lucille Smith and Bernice Hill.
Burial services were held Satruday, September 10, 2011 in Red Star Cemetery, Leedey, Oklahoma under the direction of Shaw Funeral Home, Leedey, Oklahoma.
