Melvin Gamble was born August 5, 1923 in Sunny Point, Oklahoma to Lela Ellen (McDonald) and John Emory Gamble. He passed away September 8, 2012 at his home at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 3 days.
Melvin grew up in Sunny Point until the age of 15 when he moved with his parents to Weatherford, Oklahoma. After a brief stay in Weatherford, they moved back to the farm West of Erick. He was married to Dorothy Louise (Kinchen) Gamble at Sayre, Oklahoma on January 5, 1946. After their marriage, they remained on the farm and Melvin continued working for the Beckham County Soil Conservation District until 1947 when he went to full time farming until his retirement in 1988. Melvin and Dorothy began traveling across the United States and also visited 11 other countries. Melvin also enjoyed fishing, reading and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, David Gamble and 1 brother J.M. Gamble.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of the home; son, Darrel and wife, Sherri, Erick, OK; daughter-in-law, Anita Gamble, Kilgore, TX; 5 grandchildren, Todd Gamble and wifed, Jennifer, San Antonio, TX, Stacey McSwain, Kilgore, TX, Lindsay Coker and husband, Brian, Blanchard, OK, Donnie Gamble and wife, Heidi, Kilgore, TX, Jamie Gamble ans wife, Rachel, Houston, TX; 5 great grandchildren, Micah and Mason McSwain, Brandon Gamble, Emma and Ethan Coker as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be held atr 2:00 p.m. today, September 11, 2012 at Texola Baptist Church officiated by Bro. Charlie Floyd. Burial will follow at Erick Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.whineryfs.com.
