June Elizabeth Widener was born June 24, 1924 in Strong City, Oklahoma to Hazel and Lou Young. She passed away August 2, 2015 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 91 years, one month and eight days.
June grew up in the Strong City Community where she graduated from high school in 1943. Later she married Eskell Eldon Potts on April 16, 1944 in Panhandle, Texas. Two children were born to this union. Dale and Carolyn. After Eskell’s death in October of 1952 June worked as a waitress where she met and later married Norman Widener at Sayre, Oklahoma on January 22, 1955. With this marriage, she was blessed with the addition of Norman’s five children and the birth of a daughter, Toni. June was employed as a telephone operator in Durham and with the Reydon School for many ears as a cook before becoming the head dietician at the Roger Mills Memorial Hospital in 1964 where she remained until her retirement. She loved to sew and made all the children’s school clothes. During her later years she enjoyed doing embroidery work to pass her time.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a son, Dale Potts, a grandson, Daniel Leon Burrows and a son-in-law, Dalton Burrows, her brothers and sisters, Joy Young, Fra Young, Teresa Hensley, Wilma Jean Allen and Pauline Russell.
She is survived by her children, Elaine Wright and husband, Glen, Springfield, OR; Clifford Widener and wife, Crystal, Tuttle, OK; Glenn Widener and wife, Sharon, Katy, Texas; Sharon Hyland and husband, Bob, Ridgefield, WA; Pauline Pennington and husband, Larry, Reydon, OK; Carolyn Burrows, Hammon, OK; Toni Swartwood and husband, Bill, Elk City, OK; her grandchildren, Rick and Shirley Wright, Debbie Carr, Patti and Renn Morris, Mike Wright, Connie and Eddie Hargues, Callie and Ronnie Troglin, Cathey and Rodney Naico, Kim and Craig Piwonka, Michelle and Greig DeBow, Stephanie and Chris Pruneda, Shane and Meredith Hyland, Neal and Darla Pennington, Marty and Stephanie Pennington, Danita and Brandon Cloud, Dustin Burrows, Kara and Brian Smith, Brady and Jamie Swartwood; her great grandchildren, Shana Wright, Elissa Wright, David, and Yenny Wright, Cayla Carr, Nicole and Flamur Vehapi, Michelle Brady, Amandy Lynch, Courtney Wright, Roper Hargues, Wyatt Hargues, Jacie and Cody Womack, Caitlin Boyd, Carson Naico, Ethan Naico, Megan Piwonka, Sydney Piwonka, Jack DeBow, Morgan DeBow, Will Pruneda, Brooklyn Pruneda, Jackson Hyland, Morgan Hyland , Summer Pennington, Max Pennington, Cooper Pennington, Rowdy Cloud, Ty Cloud, Riley Cloud, Stockton Smith, Cord Smith, Jackson Swartwood; her great great grandchildren, Aisha Wright, Khadijah Wright, Asiyah Wright, Langston Womack; her sister, Luzelle Harless, Edmond, OK; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at the First Assembly of God Church in Elk City, OK on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Kevin Akins and Purcy Dale Walker officiating. Casket Bearers were Brady Swartwood, Brandon Cloud, Dustin Burrows, Brian Smith, Marty Pennington, Neal Pennington. and the Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchldren as Honorary Casket Bearers. Interment was in the Cheyenne Cemetery, Cheyenne, OK.
