Joyce “Shorty” Beavin Obituary

Joyce Ellen Beavin was born February 2nd, 1938 in Shattuck, Oklahoma to Annie Odessa (Allen) and Jesse Clinton Wright. She passed away at her home Saturday, May 4th, 2024 at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 2 days.

Joyce grew up in Crawford, Oklahoma community where she attended school graduating in 1956. Shortly after her graduation she was married to Howard Noel “Pudge” Beavin in Sayre, Oklahoma on February 1st, 1957. Together they made their home in Cheyenne where they raised their family and she focused on being a mother and caring for her three boys. Joyce later worked outside the home in tax preparation joining the 2nd longest standing family owned business on Broadway in Cheyenne, Beavin Tax Services, 71 years. The business started with Paul Beavin in 1953 until Joyce joined the business in 1960 as a clerk. She became the managing partner in 1966. She welcomed her son, Jimmy into the business in 1983 the same year that Paul retired. She continued to manage until handing over the reigns to Jimmy in 2020. Joyce and Pudge also owned the Beavins Dry Goods Store that they operated for a number of years. She was very civic minded with the chamber of commerce having served as past president. She also was a Cub Scout Den mother, class parent, a member of the Sorosis Club serving as president in 1974-1975, and attended the Cheyenne First Baptist Church.

Joyce also enjoyed attending school functions, bowling, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 63 years, Pudge; great granddaughter, Madison Beavin

Joyce is survived by 3 sons, Craig Beavin and wife, Lavonda, Cheyenne, OK, Jimmy Beavin and wife, Debbie, Cheyenne, OK, and Jerry Beavin and wife, Nancy, Corpus Christi, TX; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 1 great grandchild on the way; brother, Doyle Wright and wife, Judy, Ft. Smith, AR; sister, Dolores Blundell, Perryton, TX; brother-in-law, Jerry Beavin; her caretakers, Tristan Beavin and Heather Cox and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services at Cheyenne First Baptist Church with her Martha SS Class as Honorary Pallbearers. Interment in Cheyenne Cemetery.
