1947 – 2020
Johnnie Wayne Allen was born January 19, 1947 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Jack and Opal (Caudle)
Allen. He passed from this life on May 25, 2020 at the age of 73. Johnnie was raised in the
Crawford area, where he attended both elementary and high school. After graduation Johnnie
went to Sayre where he attended college for one semester before moving to Woodward. He
met his future wife, Glenda Gately, at Sonic shortly after moving to town. Johnnie and Glenda
were married on November 10, 1967 in Woodward, Oklahoma. They lovingly welcomed three
children into their family, Shannon, Justin, and Shawn.
Johnnie and Glenda lived in several places through the years, including Woodward, Cheyenne,
Durham, Harmon, and Crawford. Johnnie performed several jobs during his life; he worked at a
pig farm, in the oilfield, worked at both the Reydon and Woodward schools, was an Atwoods
employee, ran a dairy, and ranched, but he will be most remembered for the many miles of
fence he built as a contract fence builder.
After Glenda’s passing in 2009 he decided to retire, and sold their ranch at Crawford and moved
back to Woodward. He later met and married Alberta Jones in June, 2013.
Johnnie retired at the age of 65 to spend his time working for the Lord. He was baptized 25
years ago at Elm Street Baptist Church in Woodward. He served as a deacon at the First Baptist
Church in Durham for many years. Just prior to his passing he regularly attended the First
Assembly of God Church in Woodward.
Johnnie enjoyed track and basketball, as an athlete and a fan. After retirement he enjoyed
travelling, and took several cruises to Mexico, Alaska, and Europe. He spent many hours visiting
people, and made it a point to visit those in the nursing home and hospital. He loved driving red
vehicles and wanted a bright red casket, but it wasn’t an option. He was always in good spirits
and had a good sense of humor. He loved his grandkids and great grandkids. He always had a
sucker for them when they were little, or a few dollars to share when they got older.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his loving wife, Glenda, infant son, Justin, parents Jack and
Opal Allen; in-laws Martin and Lois Gately, brother Jackie Allen, and wife Alberta. He is survived
by daughter, Shannon and her husband, Eugene Davis; son, Shawn and his wife, Teri Allen;
grandkids, Brittney and husband Ross Gaisford, Morgan and husband Paul Gonzales, Dylan
Allen, and Bradley Davis and girlfriend Morgan Carroll. Three great grandkids, Alexis Gaisford,
Kade Gaisford, and Fallon Gonzales. Brothers Jodie Allen and wife Barbara, Jerry Allen and wife
Nancy, Jimmie Allen and wife Becky, sister Glenda Kirk, and sister in law, Pat Allen; brother-in-
law Eldon Thomas and wife Kathy; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and extended
family and friends.
Johnnie’s final words to everyone: “Stay with the Lord, because that’s all you have.”
