Barnes, Jewell Violet Marshall

Jewell Violet Barnes was born February 27, 1917 at the farm in Berlin, Oklahoma to Sarah and Dennis Eugene Marshall. She passed away November 18, 2011 at Wichita, Kansas at the age of 94 years, 8 months and 21 days.
She started schooil at Evenview, a one room school house and when it closed she went to Berlin where she graduated in 1936. She attended the Church of Christ with the family and later on her own as a faithful member.
She was married to John William Barnes west of Sayre, Oklahoma on July 1, 1939. They moved to Clinton, Oklahoma while John was in the CCC camp. Later they moved back to Berlin community and farmed before moving to Wichita, Kansas in 1952 to make their home. They both worked at Coleman Company until Jewell quit to be a full time wife.
She loved to work in her yard always growing pretty flowers. She knitted, crocheted, tatted, sewed and made quilts. Jewell and John loved to travel and saw a lot of the United States. After John retired they would go to south Texas for the winter and Jewel continued to go even after John passed away in 1988.
She was a member of the Northside Church of Christ, Wichita, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 5 brothersz, Alvin, Melvin, Garold (Pete), Lonnie (Bud) and Garlin (Dink); 3 sisters Freeda Kirk, Rose Nell and Edith.
She is survived by her 2 sisters, Rena Dovell and husband, Amos, Sayre, OK, Elouise Marshall, Elk City, OK; 1 brother, Dennis Marshall and wife, Pat, Hobart, OK; 3 sisters-in-law, Freda Marshall, Kansas, Eileen Marshall, Carnegie, OK, Roma Barnes; 1 brother-in-law, Raymond Heims, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services were held Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 10:00 am at Whinery-Savage Chapel officiated by Shawn Zybach. Burial will be at Berlin Cemetery under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funerazl Service.
