BOTTOM, Ben

Ben E. Bottom was born April 27, 1926 in Washita County, Oklahoma to Agnes and Clyde Bottom. He passed away May 19, 2015 at Amarillo, Texas at the age of 89 years and 22 days.

Ben lived in Washita County until he was 7 years when the family moved east of Strong City, Oklahoma near 9 Mile road to establish their Homeplace, which Ben still owned. He attended school at Hammon. After graduating from high school in 1945, he farmed for 2 years and did so well with his cotton crops that after his first year he purchased a John Deere tractor and after the second he purchased a new car, paying for both with cash. Ben left farming and began working in the Horseracing Industry as a Trainer and Jockey. He also was a Union Pipefitter and he traveled from Galveston, Texas all the way to Nebraska during his career. After retiring he returned to western Oklahoma where was later married to Kathyrn (Tice) Montgomery at Reydon, Oklahoma on May 12, 2001 and they made their home west of Reydon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Doris Bradshaw, a brother, Clyde Edward Bottom.

He is survived by his wife, Kathyrn, of the home; a stepdaughter, Cherel Park and husband, Leon, of Canyon, TX; 4 stepgrandchildren, Lisa Lightfoot of Canyon, TX, Brian Park of Canyon, TX, Brittani Baker of Durham, OK and Bailee Montgomery of Eufaula, OK; 4 step great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services were held at the Reydon Community Building, May 22, at 2:00
