Funeral services for Sam D. Burckhalter were held Tuesday, February 23, 1993 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sweetwater First Baptist Church with Dennis Surber and J.M. Ashley officiating.
Sam, the son of Sannie Elizabeth and Daniel Boone Burckhalter, was born November 30, 1907 in Strong City, OK and passed away February 21, 1993 in the Great Plains Regional Medical Center, Elk City, OK at the age of 85 years, two months and 21 days.
Sam moved to Berlin and later to Elk City, OK with his parents. On October 13, 1928 he married Leah Irene Aulbert in Berlin and they lived in the Grimes Community before moving north of Texola and later to Erick before moving to the Sunny Point Community in December of 1944. In 1963 they moved to the Meridian Community to make their home. He was a member of the Buffalo Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister, three grandsons and one granddaughter.
Survivors include his wife, Irene, of the home; two daughters Fern York, Sweetwater, OK and Kaye Hopkins of Oklahoma City, OK; two sons, S.A. “Buck” Burckhalter of Sweetwater, OK and Paul Burckhalter of Springfield, MO; one sister, Ola Farrar of Sayre, OK; two granddaughters, one grandson, one great grandson and one great granddaughter and one great, great granddaughter. Interment was in the Mulberry Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
