Ola Maye Cunningham was born January 30, 1933 in Carter County, Oklahoma to Nellie and John E. Reed. She passed away October 29, 2011 at Cheyenne, Oklahoma at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 29 days.
Ola Maye moved with her family to Roger Mills County and grew up in the Crawford community. She attended school at Crawford and graduated from Cheyenne High School. She married Basil N. Cunningham in May of 1953 and she traveled with him during his military career and they lived in several locales including Vincenza, Italy, Satlle, Washington and Arizona. They bought a home in Cheyenne, Oklahoma and Ola Mae stayed there to care for the home. Basil retired in the mid 1960’s and then joined her in Cheyenne. In 1978, Basil passed away and several years later she married J.T. Boyett. Ola Mae enjoyed working with the public and owned several restaurants in Cheyenne including The Bear Drive-In, The County Boy, The Cheyenne Social Club and most recently, Ode’s Place.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Basil N. Cunningham, a sister, Betty Conway, and brother, Ted Reed.
She is survived by her children, Sandie Amore and husband, Michael, Cheyenne, OK; Brent Cunningham and wife, Lucy, Cheyenne, OK and Brian Cunningham, Burns Flat, OK; 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; her nephews, Gene Conway, Rick Conway, Bob Conway, Tom Conway, Frank Young, Manuel Young and Dennie Young, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held at a later date in Cheyenne Cemetery.
