Davis, Wanzell L. Hardin

Wanzell L. Davis was born March 28, 1931 near Crawford, Oklahoma to Bessie Mae (Bullard) and William Aaron Hardin. She passed away January 11, 2011 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 13 days.
Wanzell grew up in Crawford where she attended school. She was married to Floyd R. Davis at Canadian, Texas on December 31, 1947. They lived in Crawford until 1958 when they moved to Carter, Oklahoma where they owned Davis Grocery Store. In 1963 they moved to Elk City to make their home. Floyd and Wanzell owned and operated Davis Feed Lot and Locker Plant for a number of years. In 1972 she obtained her nursing degree.
She worked at Elk City Community Hospital, Office Nurse for Drs.Friesen, Perkins and Phelps and later taught at the Western Oklahoma Vocation Center and was a nurse at Elk City Nursing Home.
She was a member of the Second and Adams Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 sister, June Barber, her brothers, Travis and Jack Hardin.
She is survived by her 2 daughters, Deena and Dee Damron, Lufkin, Texas; Dixie and Ray Damron, Elk City, Oklahoma; 1 son, Roger and Tommye Davis, Elk City, Oklahoma; 7 grand-children, Duke Damron and wife, Kimberly, Lake Jackson, Texas; Jacob Damron and wife, Jennifer, Keller, Texas; Cody Damron and wife LaDorshe’, San Antonio, Texas; Amy Pettigrew and husband, Blake, Southlake, Texas; Kyle Damron and wife, Amy, Richardson, Texas; Cade Davis, Norman, Oklahoma; Will Davis, Elk City, Oklahoma; 9 great grand-children, a special niece, Judy Icke and husband, Dave, Crawford, Oklahoma; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Whinery-Savage Chapel officiated by Tom Harguess with the eulogy by Cody Damron and assisted by Casey LaValley. Rod Minor will conduct the graveside. Burial will be at Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service. Condolences can be made online at www.whineryfs.com
