Ellon Marie Ellis was born August 12,1922 in Penelope, Texas to Alice and Samuel Jones. She passed away October 27, 2012 at Cheyennre, Oklahoma at the age of 90 years 2 months and 15 days.
Ellon spent her childhood in Penelope, Texas, where she attended school until the age of 11 when she moved with her family to Durham graduating from Durham high school in 1941.After graduation, she was married to Russell R. Ellis at Sayre, OK,on June 21, 1941. After their marriage, they made their home in Snakey Bend and moved to Cheyenne in 1959. While living in town Ellon worked for Dr. Reimer, the County Clerk’s office and in the 80’s she began volunteering at the Circle of Care Clothes Closet. In 2005 she was awarded the Dean Krober Volunteer of the year award. Ellon also enjoyed reading, sewing, tending her flowers and taking care of her grandchildren. She was a member of the Eastern Star Mizpah Chaptrer # 80 for 59 years and the Cheyenne First Baptist Church where she faithfully taught Bible class for over 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Phyllis Ruth, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
She is survived by her 2 daughters, Linda Maddux and husband, James, Geneece Cook and husband, Ronny, all of Cheyenne, Oklahoma, 9 grandchildren, Jamie Maddux Allen and husband, Greg, Jim Maddux and wife, Jana, Tom Maddux and wife Shannon, Shelley Lindberg, Tonja Cook-Young and husband, Carlos, all of Cheyenne, OK, Tom Cook and wife,RaNita, Amarillo, TX, Mary Maddux Hauck and husband, David, Little Elm, TX, Travis Cook and wife Marcie, Canyon, TX, Dusti Kirk and husband, Calvin, Cheyenne, OK; 18 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held Friday, November 2, 2012 at 1:30 pm at the Cheyenne First Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Aubrey Cowan sand Dr. Denny Hooper. Burial will follow at Bellview Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service. Condolences can be made online www.whineryfs.com
