ELY, Laquita Joy (Mutschler)

Laquita Joy (Mutschler) Ely, 80, of Cheyenne, Oklahoma was born on December 11, 1934 to William Otto and Cora Frances (Fatheree) Mutschler. Laquita passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Hensley Nursing Home in Sayre, Oklahoma. She met and married her best friend and love of her life, Hiram Crockett (H.C.) Ely on October 5, 1953 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on November 28, 2000.
Laquita farmed side by side with her husband, held a masters in education, taught at Cheyenne Public Schools and was a counselor at Diversified Family Services. She was instrumental in founding the pre-school in Cheyenne, Oklahoma She was also an active member of the Nazarene Church where she taught Sunday School and also served on the Board of Directors.
Laquita took great joy in working as a teacher and loved each and every one of her students. Her family, immediate and extended, were also very special to her.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p .m., Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the First Christian Church in Sayre, Oklahoma. Dennis Knight will officiate. Interment will be at Dempsey Cemetery in Dempsey, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City, Oklahoma.
She is survived by her son, W.C. Ely and his wife, DeAnna of Stratton, Colorado; four daughters: Mary (Ely) Parkhurst and husband, Charles of Weatherford, Oklahoma; Betty (Ely) Weichel and husband, Ray of Colony, Oklahoma, L. Jane (Ely) Edwards and husband, Ronnie of Clarendon, Texas, Cathy (Ely) Cobb and husband, Gary of Roll, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Darrel Lee Mutschler and his wife, Barbara of Marble Falls, Texas; two sisters, Juanita (Mutschler) Wingo of Sunray, Texas and Glenys (Mutschler) Teter of Riesel, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Frankie Tidwell and Deaton Williams both of Elk City, Oklahoma and Joyce Mutschler of Sunray, Texas.
Laquita is preceded in death by her husband, H.C. Ely; parents, William and Frances Mutschler; one brother, Carl Mutschler; one sister, Alta Mae (Mutschler) Clark, and numerous other brothers and sisters-in-law.
