Linda Sue “MiMi” Farris was born August 6, 1947 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Ella Mae and Dimp Vane Robertson. She passed away January 16, 2015 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 67 years, five months and ten days.
Linda grew up north of Sayre. She graduated from Berlin High School in 1965 where she was known as the “Class Clown” by her eleven other classmates. Linda graduated from Earlene’s Beauty School in Clinton and worked as a hairdresser in Sayre. She was married to William “Bill” Farris and while he was in the military, they lived in Germany where their daughter, Julie Ann, was born. After his discharge, they lived in Lima and Paraguay and Linda stayed at home to care for her daughter. They later returned to the United States and made their home in Sayre, where she later began taking college classes and was employed with Allison Enterprises and Arrowhead Resources. She taught Adult Education computer classes at Western VoTech for several years and later worked full time as an Administrative Assistant and taught computer night classes. Most recently, she was employed with Rural Community Insurance Services, a subsidiary of Wells Fargo Bank, as a Computer Support Technician. Linda’s greatest joy was to watch her “Heartbeat” J.J. play softball and was known to all the girls as “MiMi’. She also was a Girl Scout Leader of Troop 690. Linda was the life of the party wherever she was and could always find the humor in any situation. She loved going to the farm, fishing, reading and always looked forward to going on her “sister trips” and traveling to watch J.J. play ball. Linda was a lifelong follower of the Methodist faith. She was a former member of the Sayre United Methodist for many years and was currently a member of the Elk City United Methodist Church. She helped with M.Y.F., “Angels”, taught Sunday School and was the Director of the Puppet Ministry.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Carl Gene Robertson.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie Ann (Farris) Schneberger and husband, Jeff, Canute, OK; granddaughter Jillian Jo “J.J.” Schneberger, Canute, OK; her sisters, LaGayla Benton and husband, Eugene, Sayre, OK and Treva Whitson, Sayre, OK; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held January 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Elk City United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Terry Koehn. Burial will be at Lone Oak Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service. Visitation will be Monday, January 19, 5-9 and Tuesday, January 20, 9-noon at Rose Chapel, Sayre, Tuesday, January 20, 1-9 and Wednesday, January 21, 9-noon at Whinery-Savage in Elk City.
