FLICK, John Truman

John Truman Flick, 98, of Hammon, Oklahoma was born on April 19, 1918 in Hammon, Oklahoma. He is the son of Howard Elmer and Ola Mae (Linville) Flick. John passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Weatherford Regional Hospital in Weatherford, Oklahoma. John met the love of his life at college, Loy Lorene Christian, she was dipping ice cream in the girl‘s dorm. They married on August 1, 1940 in Vinita, Oklahoma. Loy preceded him in death on May 21, 2014.
John graduated from Hammon High School class of 1937. He attended Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, Oklahoma for two years.
He enjoyed woodworking, making pottery, being a silversmith, and polishing rocks. John’s hobbies included arrowhead hunting, traveling around the world, collecting antiques and studying archaeology. He also taught a GI Training Class for World War II Veterans. John was a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Hammon, Oklahoma.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Hammon, Oklahoma. Interment will be at Red Hill Cemetery in Hammon, Oklahoma. Rev. Scott Showers will officiate. Services have been entrusted to the care of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City, Oklahoma.
John is survived by his son, Dr. David Flick and his wife, Effie Mae of Yukon, Oklahoma; three daughters, Mary John Carter and her husband, Bobby of Hammon, Oklahoma; Susan Grabeal and her husband, Larry of Hammon, Oklahoma and Jane Ann Bowen and her husband, Glen of Hammon, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Sue Flick of Hammon, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
John was the last surviving member of his family. He is preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Loy Lorene Flick; parents, Howard and Ola Mae Flick; three brothers, Elmer Flick, Amos Flick and Oscar Flick; sister Mary Ellen Hibler, Brother-in-law Claire Hibler. Memorials can be made to the Hammon First Baptist Church of the Hammon Senior Citizens Center in care of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home, 600 West Country Club Blvd. , Elk City, Oklahoma 7364.
