HENSON, Doris Ellen Matthews

Doris Ellen (Matthews) Henson was born April 17, 1923 in Berlin, OK to Jessie Lee and Nolan Matthews. She passed away September 11, 2012 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 24 days.
Doris grew up in the Berlin community and graduated from Berlin High School. She was married to Elwin Johnston and a daughter, Karolyn, was born to this union. They moved to California where Doris did her part for the war effort working as a “Rosie the Riveter”. She returned to Oklahoma and was attending nurses school at Elk City when she met Bill Henson and they were later married., Bill worked in the oilfield and his job took the all across the country. Doris loved to travel and spent many years touring both in the United States and abroad where she visited England, Denmark, Singapore and Indonesia. She experienced many adventures and also met many diverse and interesting people. This was her greatest joy in life as was relating these times to her friends and relativres.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and 2 brothers, Bill “Sonny” Matthews ands James Matthews.
She is survived by her daughter, Karolyn Cruze and husband, Arnold, Memphis, TX, 2 grandchildren, Stephen Cruze, Memphis, TX, and Patty Smith and husband, Kent, Stroud, OK; a great grandchild, Marick Cruze, a brother, Daniel Matthews and wife, Pat, Windover, UT; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family request memoral donations be made to the Berlin Cemetery.
Services will be held today, September 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Rose Chapel officiated by Kendell Hamilton. Burial will be at Berlin Cemetery under tyhe direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service. Condolences can be made online at www.whineryfs.com
