Loreta Ruth James was born January 17, 1946 in Clinton, Oklahoma to Josephine Ruth and Clarence Edgar Addington. She passed away October 15, 2010 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 64 years, 8 months and 28 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a niece, Tammy Addington.
Loreta grew up in Leedey, Oklahoma graduating from Leedey High School in 1964. After graduating she was married to Roy Russell James at Clinton, Oklahoma on May 39, 1965. Loreta continued her education at Southwestern State University graduating with her bachelors degree in education. After graduation, Roy and Loreta moved to Chickasha and Oklahoma City before moving to Elk City in 1973 to make their home.
Loreta then begin teaching 9th grade English with Elk City School system and joined the Steel Magnolia coffee cup group. She also joined the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and was in charge of many travel trips to Italy, Ireland, France and New York. In 1995 she started the Investment Club in Elk City. In 2004 Loreta retired and in 2008 started writing weekly articles for the Elk Citian newspaper. Besides her family, Loreta held a special place in her heart for her Methodist Church family and teaching Sunday School to all ages of people.
She is survived by her husband, Roy, of the home; son, Rusty James, New York, NY; daughter, Lory Kerr and husband, Donnie, Elk City, Oklahoma; 3 grandchildren, Noah, and Luke and Anna Kerr, all of Elk City, Oklahoma; 2 brothers, Billy Addington and wife, Jana, Leedey, Oklahoma; Jackie Addington and wife, Dawnita, Elk City, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Services were held Monday, October 18, 2010 at 10:00 am at Elk City United Methodist Church officiated by Dan Peil and Danny Ringer. Burial followed at Fairlawn cemetery under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service. Condolences can be made online at www.whineryfs.com
