Jones, Winonia Darlene “Nona” Hensley

Winonia Darlene “Nona” Hensley Jones, was born on April 22, 1943 at Durham, Oklahoma to Guy C. and Erma Gantz Hensley. She grew up in the Durham area and graduated from Reydon High School. She graduated and received master’s degree from both Southwestern Oklahoma State University and West Texas A&M University. She served a year in the U.S. Army. She taught most of her life and spent more than ten years teaching Computer Science at Western Oklahoma State College. She retired from Red River Community Credit Union as Vice President of Data Processing. She was a membr of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, Jackson County Democrat Women and the Red Hat soiciety. She was President of OSU sponsored Oklahoma Home & Community Education Great Expectations Group. She was also a tutor for Great Plains Literacy Council. Nona was a member the Emmuuel Baptist Church since 2003 and was very active in church activities. She served whenever she was called upon and was very loving, positive, and humorous. She taught her Sunday Schoo class, led a Ladies Bible Study, taught a bible study at Plantation Village Nursing Home, and cooked for any youth at Falls Creek. She helped out with children’s ministries, VBS, B.L.A.S.T., the ladies ministry, and the prayer ministry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jones, her father, and two sisters, Vondell Albright and Karen Sue Hensley.
Nona is survived by her mother, Erma Hensley of Sayre, Oklahoma a sister, Patricia Minjaris and her husband Lee, of Alamogordo, New Mexico five brothers, Addie Hensley and his wife Nrma of Pampa, Texas; Dale Hensley and his wife, Pat, of Clovis, New Mexico; Ronald Hensley and his wife, Darlene of Durham, Oklahoma; Quinlin Hensley and his wife Roxie of Altus, Oklahoma; and Glen Hensley and wife Sherry of Cheyenne, Oklahoma.
Memorial services were held Sunday, September 26, 2010 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Altus, Oklahoma officiated by Rev. Boyd Whitehead.
