KAUK, Calvin Chris

Calvin Chris “Cappie” Kauk was born May 12, 1924 ten miles southeast of Leedey at the home of his parents, John and Carrie (Baumgartner) Kauk. He passed from this life September 2, 2012 in Elk City at the age of 88. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Leedey. Cappie grew up on the family farm and was united in marriage to Zettie Ramsey on August 18, 1945. They began married life on Cappie’s home place and soon bought the farm and made it their own. Their days were spent raising two children, working the land, and tending their cattle. Cappie enjoyed farming, spending time with his wife and family, visiting friends and neighbors, attending church, working in his garden, and fishing.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loing and devoted wife of 67 years, Zettie; daughter Cheryl Stringer and husband Tommy of Corsicana, Texas; son Keith Kauk and wife Mona of Atlanta, Georgia; Granddaughters Angie Stone and husband Bryon of San Antonio, Texas; Julie Ouchley and husband Jeremy of The Woodlands, Texas; Shanele Mason and husband Jim of Columbus, Ohio; and Sherri Kauk of Los Angeles, California, six great grandchildren (Maggie and Kiera Mason; Evan, Natalie, and Sarah Stone; and hudson Ouchiley); 27 nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends. Cappie’s family sends a special thank you to the nurses at Bell Avenue Nursing Center for the care they provided and to family and friends who visited through his illness. Preceding Cappie in death are his parents, John and Carrie Kauk, two brothers, Edmond and Ben; six sisters, Esther Harguess, Ida McRee, Elma and Lillie Kauk, Cora Wahl, and Juanita Schmierer.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Leedey High School auditorium with Tom Harguess officiating. Burial will follow in Center Point cemetery, 14 1/2 miles east of Leedey on Hwy 47. Pall bearers will be Dickie Childress, Rick Kauk, Eric Goldsberry, Kevin Ramsey, Galeard Roper, Leslie Roper and Loren Roper.
