Patty B. Kauk, 84 of Leedey, OK, passed from this life February 25, 2016 at the Corn Heritage Village in Corn. Patty was born March 17, 1931 to Alfred I. “Jim” Barten and Mary A. (Dowling) Barten in Leedey, OK. Patty grew up in Leedey, OK and attended the Leedey Public Schools graduating with the Class of 1949. On June 12, 1949, Patty married Junior Kauk and to this union two sons were born Danny and Dickey. Patty and Junior made their home in Leedey for the next 66 years until 2015 when they moved to Corn, OK.
Patty worked side by side with her husband. Together they worked at the Leedey Cotton Gin, Kauk Oil Company service station, and they farmed. Patty also worked at the Leedey Nursing Center for ten years starting out as a cook and progressed up to the title of Activity Director.
Patty was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Leedey all her life. She was baptized when she was a teenager at the Hammon First Baptist Church because the Leedey First Baptist Church had not built their baptismal yet.
Patty was a member of the Leedey EMT. At a time when the Leedey Ambulance was about to lose their service for lack of volunteers, Patty and Betty Stout stepped up and took EMT Training to keep Leedey from losing their Ambulance Service. Patty and Betty served as EMTs for many years.
Patty enjoyed many hobbies including baking, painting, fishing, traveling and camping. She hosted and cooked the Kauk reunion in her home many times. She thoroughly enjoyed her kids, grandkids and great grandson, spending many hours playing Plunk and other activities with them. “Grandma Patty” as she was lovingly known by more than just her grandkids will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Patty is preceded in death by parents Jim and Mary Barten; grandson Denton Edward Kauk; brother Floyd Barten and wife Avis; brothers-in–law Gilbert Kauk and wife Hazel, Melvin Kauk and wife Stella, Austin Kauk, Johnny Kauk and Bert Nichols; sisters–in-law Florence Kauk and Geraldine Robertson and husband Preach.
She is survived by her husband of the home, Junior Kauk; two sons Danny Edward Kauk and wife Linda of Vega, TX; Dickey Ivan Kauk of Weatherford, OK; sister Peggy Cole and husband Den of Taloga, OK; brother-in-law Allen Kauk and wife Maxine, sisters-in-law Roberta Kauk of Leedey, OK and Margaret Nichols of Elk City, OK; one granddaughter Carrie Cram and husband Joel Cram of Anna, TX; one great grandson Li’l Joel Cram; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services were held Monday, February 29, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Leedey with Burial following at New Hermon Cemetery, Leedey.
