Lucas, Thurman Earl “Ike”

Thurman Earl “Ike” Lucas was born April 21, 1931 at home 2 miles south and 1 1/2 miles west of Crawford, Oklahoma. He was the third child of Gertrude Elizabeth and Fred Louis Lucas, Sr. He passed from this life on November 18, 2011 at Clinton, Oklahoma at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 27 days. He attended school at Crawford until the 8th grade. He left school to begin working; he owned and operated a grocery store in Cheyenne with his parents before his service in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean Confict. After his service in the army, he married to Brilla June Aderhold at Reydon, Oklahoma on May 1, 1955. This union was blessed with three children, Carol Earlene, Frank and Julie.
After his marriage, thety lived in Oklahoma City where he worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone while attending Technical Vocation School. Ike and Brilla moved back to the Crawford area in 1956 to the family farm where he had a dairy and farming operation. He later worked for A.L. West Lumber Yard and the ASCS office in Cheyenne before operating his own lumberyard in 1977. He retired from the lumber business in 1985 and began traveling the country.
Ike served on the Cheyenne Library Board, Roger Mills County Genealogy Society, Silent Home Cemetery Board and the Roger Mills Historical Society. He was devoted to the historical preservation of Roger Mills County and donated and organized exhibits in the Veterans and Pioneer museums in Cheyenne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter, Carol Earlene Lucas, and 3 brothers, William, Donald, Fred Louise, Jr. “Pete”.
He is survived by his wife, Brilla, of the home; 1 Daughter, Julie O’Neal and husband, Randy, Durham, OK; 1 son Frank Lucas and wife, Lynda, Roll, OK; 1 Sister, Helen June Lemmond and husband, Roy, Hugo, OK; 5 Grandchildren, Jessdica McDaniel and husband Jimmy, Ashlea Yeager and husband, Nehemiah, Grant Lucas, Caitlin O’Neal and John O’Neal, 1 Great Granddaughter, Lauren McDaniel, 1 Sister-In-Law, Bernita Lucas, Missouri; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside Services were held Monday, November 21, 2011 at Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service, Cheyenne. Condolences can be made online at www.martin-duggerfuneralhome.com
