Cheyenne native Ruby Ellen (Haigood) Maxon, 90, of Cashion, died Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Cimarron Nursing Center in Kingfisher. Services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 16, 2016 at Cashion Christian Church, with burial at Cashion Cemetery.
Mrs. Maxon was born August 27, 1925 to Joseph Gordis and Minnie Pearl (James) Haigood in Cheyenne, Oklahoma, and grew up on the family farm near Cheyenne. She graduated as Salutatorian from Cheyenne High School in 1943 and moved to Oklahoma City to work.
On October 13, 1946, she married Robert H. Maxon in Kingfisher. The couple lived and farmed in the Cashion community until shortly before his death in 2015. She was a member of Cashion Christian Church for 70 years.
Mrs. Maxon worked as a key-punch operator at Globe Life Insurance Co., the Oklahoma Alcohol Beverage Control Board and the Federal Aviation Administration in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
She is survived by daughter Diana Fowler and husband Jack of Cashion; son Gary Maxon and wife Deborah of Moore; son Terry Maxon and wife Jannett of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren, Brian Fowler and wife Gina, Shelly Phippen and husband Dirk; Christopher Maxon and wife Stacey, Megan Bradley and husband Shaun, Matthew Maxon and wife Brittany, Lindsey Maxon and Stephen Maxon, and great-grandchildren Addison, Easton and Nolan Fowler, Austin, Aubyn and Gavin Phippen, Jaycelyn and Madilyn Bradley, Mylie, Maxon and Katie and John Barry, as well as brother-in-law William H. Maxon and his wife Mabel. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, four brothers and two sisters and one son, Tommy Maxon, and his wife, Jacqueline.
Memorials may be made to the Tommy and Jackie Maxon Scholarship Fund, which honors a graduating senior at Cashion High School each year The scholarship fund is administered by the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, 1000 N. Broadway, Oklahoma City, OK 73102.
