Cecil Garold McGuire, 91 year old resident of Durham, Oklahoma passed from this life at his home November 27, 2015. Cecil was born September 6, 1924, to John and Mabell (Trowbridge) McGuire in their home in Gove County, Kansas. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Logan County, Kansas where he was raised in a rock house. He attended a little white school house in Logan County, Kansas called District 3 School where he completed eighth grade. Growing up Cecil helped on the family farm and raising his siblings until he met the love of his life Ina Bernice Kibbe. On May 7, 1952 Bernice and Cecil were married in Oakley, Kansas and to this union two daughters were born Doris Jean Calvert and Beverly Ann McGuire.
In 1955 Cecil and Bernice moved to Arnett, Oklahoma. Cecil was an auto mechanic for twenty seven years at Vincent-Miller Chevrolet and served as an Ellis County Employee for nineteen years. He also enjoyed farming and ranching throughout his life. Cecil participated and was a member of many organizations. He was a member of Ellis County Sportsman Club, participated in band boosters and the Wildcat Athletic Booster Club. Cecil received many rewards and recognitions for his accomplishments which included Certified Technician for 24 years, County Safety Award and Only the Best Club Chevrolet Retail Service Managements Award.
At a very young age Cecil was baptized at Pilgrim Holiness Keystone Church in Logan County, Kansas. When he moved to Arnett, Cecil became a member of the Arnett First Christian Church. Cecil was very active in the church where he served as the janitor for twenty plus years, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon and Elder. Cecil also enjoyed hunting, fishing, crafts, gardening and telling jokes. Cecil will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Cecil was preceded in death by his wife, Ina Bernice McGuire; parents John and Mabell McGuire; mother-in-law Eva Kibbe, father-in-law Walter Kibbe; six brothers Earl, Thomas, Glen, Clifford, Melvin and Bill, one sister Patricia Rose.
Cecil is survived by daughters Doris Jean Calvert and husband Teddy of Durham, Oklahoma and Beverly McGuire of Gage, OK; three grandchildren LaDonna Williams and husband Jesse of Direct, Texas; LaCinda Kerr and husband Tory of Cheyenne, OK and Glen Calvert and wife Kelly of Durham, OK; six great-grandchildren Samantha Williams, Randall Williams, Lillian Williams, Shane Leitch, Theran Kerr and McKenzie Kerr; three brothers Leland McGuire and wife Faye of Hays, Kansas, Don McGuire and wife Joy of Bartlesville, OK and Harvey McGuire of Oakley, Kansas; five sisters Marthanell Turley of Scott City, Kansas, Retha Lemmons of Oakley, Kansas, Elizabeth Salters of Stockton, Missouri, Luellen Ellegood and husband Keith of Oakley, Kansas and Velda Cox of Wichita, Kansas; two brothers-in-law Delbert Rose of Scott City, Kansas and Paul Kibbe and wife Martha of Arnett, Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews , other beloved family members and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church, Arnett, Oklahoma with burial following in DeBolt Cemetery, Arnett, OK. Condolences may be made to the family and Memorial Tribute viewed at shawfuneralhome.net, Shaw Funeral Home of Arnett.
