MITCHELL, Edgar William

Edgar William Mitchell, 81, of Elk City, Oklahoma was born on July 3, 1934 in Kansas City, Kansas. He is the son of Thomas Edgar and Mary Opal (Stores) Mitchell. Edgar passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016 in Elk City, Oklahoma.
Edgar enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing poker and being a jokester. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Edgar served his country in the United States Marine Corps from May 13, 1953 to December 28, 1955. He was a member of the St. Matthews Catholic Church.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Community Fellowship in Hammon, Oklahoma. Dolan Ivey will officiate. Interment will be held at Red Hill Cemetery in Hammon, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to the care of MartinDugger Funeral Home in Elk City, Oklahoma.
Edgar is survived by his special niece and nephew with whom he lived, Jeremy and Cathy Nugent of Elk City, Oklahoma; two sons, John Standingwater and Chris Byrd both of Elk City, Oklahoma; four daughters, Lisa Valdez of Corsicana, Texas; Carin Mitchell of Clinton, Oklahoma Carol Mitchell of Clinton, Oklahoma, and Carla Standingwater of Colorado; one brother, Gene Wagner of Cambria, California; one sister, Zelma “Tie” Schletzbaum of Dadeville, Missouri ; ten grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and family friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents. Thomas and Mary Mitchell, one sister, Oma Lee Walker; two brothers Clarence Mitchell and James Wisdom; two nieces, Pamela Stamper and Gwen Drinnon, two sons, Tommy Mitchell and Edgar Mitchell, Jr.; one granddaughter, Stacy Mitchell; and two brothers-in-law, Roy Walker and Joseph Schletzbaum.
