Billy Gene Montgomery was born October 3, 1927, in Reydon, Oklahoma to Lindsey Allen and Annie (Kenney) Montgomery. He departed this life on March 15, 2012 in Claremore, Oklahoma at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 12 days.
Billy was the tenth of twelve children – six boys and six girls. His brothers included: John Lindsey, Charley, Kenneth, R.L., (Pat) and Bobby. His sisters were: Viola, Velma, May, Dorothy, Oneta, Mary Lelia, Marguerette and Betty.
Billy was married to Leveta Fern Lane in 1952 in Reydon, Oklahoma. They moved to Pryor in 1952 and had one son, Jimmy Wade Montgomery. Billy was a veteran of the United States Army.
Billy was a lifelong rancher that enjoyed his grand and great grandchildren immensely. He loved roping, riding and caring for his livestock. Billy roped calved well into his seventies on the senior rodeo circuit, winning the calf roping average at the age of 70. He was a member of Mayes County Cattle Association and the Mayes County Excise Board.
Billy is survived by his wife, Fern, of the home; son Jimmy Montgomery and wife, Paula, of Pryor; granddaughters Jenny Shaw and husband Jarred of Jenks, Lisa Carver and husband Keith of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandson Trey Montgomery and wife Jami of Pryor, Shaw Montgomery and wife Laura of Pryor, great grandchildren Abby, Max, Colton, Brodie, Trevor, Lauren, Abby, Samantha, Keith, and one on the way.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Lindsey, Charley, Kenneth and Pat and sisters, Viola, Velma, Lellia and Dorothy.
Services were held March 21, 2012 at the Stephens Memorial Chapel in Pryor, Oklahoma officiated by Pastor Rou Shoop and Marge Clark. Interment was held at the Graham Memorial Cemetery in Pryor, Oklahoma.
