Nixon, Gertrude Alene Taylor Walker

Gertrude Alene Nixon was orn northwest of Leedey, Oklahoma, to Frank and Icie (Snell) Taylor on January 15 1926, and was reunited with them in heaven on August 30 2010 at the age of 84 after two years of declining health. She died in a hospital in Elk City with her husband and children close by. She grew up on their family farm and attended school and played basketball at Liberty Center. Most people knew her as “Alene”.
Alene married Herman Walker in 1940 and they had three children: Richard, Cheryl and Jerry. During their marriage they lived in Oklahoma and California. In 1956, she married Raymond Nixon of Hereford, Texas, and they had one daughter, Donna. Raymond’s construction work allowed them to live in Texas and New Mexico, and then in 1969 they moved to Hydro where they lived until 1979 at which timre they moved to Sayre. They returned to Leedey in 1983 to oversee her family farm plus be near her mother.
Hobbies and interests during her lifetime included: Fishing, gardening, canning, refinishing furniture and home decorating. Alene enjoyed cooking for family gatherings and was passionate about her family and her dog, Fraulein.
She was known for her witty sense of humor and warm smile, and took great pride in her appearance by wearing the latest fashions in clothing and jewelry. She always had a positive outlook and never complained. Al who knew her thought she was a classy lady who always had a twile in her eye and a in word to say.
She is survived by: her husband Raymod, and dog, Fraulein, of the home; her children: Richard Waler and wife Sharon of Las Cruces New Mexico; Cheryl Merks and husband Rik of Refugio, Texas; Jerry Waler and wife Debbie of Spavinaw, Oklahoma; and Donna Oler and husband John of Watonga, Oklahoma. She also has a sister, Angela Humble of Roswell, New Mexico. In addition she leaves 9 grandchilren 11 great grandchilren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, September 2, 2010 in the First United Methodist Church, Leedey, Oklahoma with burial following in Shirley cemetery. Services arranged by Shaw Funeral Home, Leedey Oklahoma. Codolences may be made to the family at shawfuneralhome.net
