Clara Mae Parks was born January 29, 1935 in Eakly, Oklahoma to Floy Etta and Harold Walter Bond. She passed away June 9, 2015 at Pampa, Texas at the age of 80 years, four months and ten days. Clara grew up in Eakly and lived on the Washita and Caddo County line. She attended Alfalfa High School graduating in 1952. After graduation, Clara furthered her education and received her nursing degree from the University of Oklahoma Nursing College. Clara was married to Ethyn Dwayne “Dick” Parks at Arapaho, Oklahoma on November 26, 1954. Clara and Dick moved to many towns in western Oklahoma before briefly moving to Colorado Springs and later to Canon City, where she worked at many hospitals and became the first woman registered nurse to work in a federal penitentiary. In 1980, Clara and Dick moved to Reydon where she worked for the Roger Mills County Memorial Hospital and was a home healthcare nurse before her retirement in the early 90s. Clara enjoyed reading, gardening and caring for her animals but her family recalls her cooking, baking and bread making abilities the most.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Ted and Bobby Bond and one infant sister.
She is survived by her son, Dick Parks and wife, Jeanne, Reydon, OK; two daughters, Cindy Nunn and husband, Kenneth of Pampa TX and Connie Steffey and husband, Jon of Allison, TX; six grandchildren, several great grandchildren; one brother, Daryl Bond and wife, Velva Jo, Yukon, OK and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 10:00 in the Reydon First Baptist Church with interment in the White Rose Cemetery east of Reydon, OK.
