Charles Velorice Sanford was born March 30, 1875 near Rolla, Missouri and died Tuesday, July 22, 1952, age 77 years, three months and 22 days at the Clinton, Oklahoma Hospital. He was the last of thirteen children.
He moved with his parents to Roger Mills County in 1901 and homesteaded on a farm five miles northeast of Reydon. He has lived there since, except for seven years, when he lived near Shattuck, Oklahoma. He was a member or the Pentecostal Church and lived a consistent Christian life, a good neighbor and a faithful and loving father, who was proud of his family. He was married to Miss Roxie Laney, September 12, 1906 at Cheyenne. To this union twelve children were born. Two boys and two girls preceded him in death. Survivors included his wife, Roxie Sanford; five daughters, Lucille Males, Durham; Inez Townsley, Crawford; Grace Henson and Pearl Harrison, Reydon, Ok; Jessie Margarette Smith, Canadian, Texas; three sons, Clifton and Hershel Sanford, Reydon and Elmer Lee Sanford, Stinnett, Texas; twenty-seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Rev. E.A. Stewart of Shamrock, Texas, former pastor at Reydon, conducted the funeral service on Friday, July 25, 1952 at the Community building. He was assisted by Rev. Hardy Monks of Crawford and Rev. Goss of Canadian, Texas. Interment was in the White Rose Cemetery, Reydon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma.
