Smith, Edward Howard, Jr.

Edward Howard Smith, Jr. was born August 26, 1922 to Sarah Yoeting and Edward Howard Smith in Leedy, Oklahoma. He passed awayt July 21, 2010 at the age of 87 in Elk City, Oklahoma.
Edward attended Leedey Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1939. He served his country from 1942-1945 where he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp. achieving the rank of Tech Sergeant.
Edward was united in marriage to Meryl Coulson on May 17, 1942 in Leedey, Oklahoma. To this union three sons were born, Edward H.,III; James Leroy and Robert Stephens. Edward was gaptized at the Leedey United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher, Lay Leader and choir member.
Edward owned and operated the family dairy from 1967 to 2004 and for many years ran a school bus route and worked as a mechanic. He was a 32nd degree Mason, member of the American Legion, Associated Milk Producers Incorporated Director and Dairy Farmers of America Director. Edward was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Sarah Smith; wife, Meryl; son, Robert; and great granddaughters, Karissa Renee and Katlyn Grace Hagerman. He is survived by sons, Edward H. Smith III and wife Sue of Camargo, Oklahoma and James L. and wife Joyce of Leedey, Oklahoma, nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, other family and many dear friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 24, 2010 in the First United Methodist Church, Leedey, Oklahoma, with burial following in New Hermon cemetery. Services arranged by Shaw Funeral Home, Leedey, Oklahoma. Condolence may be made to the family at shaw-funeralhome.net
