Walter Porter Sowders, Jr., 86, of Elk City, Oklahoma was born on June 18, 1929 in Elk City, Oklahoma. He is the son of Walter Porter Sowders, Sr. and Bessie (Lester) Sowders. Walter went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, March 11, 2016 in Corn, Oklahoma.
Walter enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling and doing yard work. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and raising his bird dogs. Walter owned and operated Sowders Dental Lab in Elk City, Oklahoma for 50 years.
Walter was a Deacon and a Sunday School teacher at Eastside Baptist Church in Elk City, Oklahoma.
He married his best friend and sweetheart Erma Joyce Farni on January 1, 1949 in Elk City, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Martin-Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City, Oklahoma. Interment will be at Red Hill Cemetery in Hammon, Oklahoma. Dennis Knight will officiate. Services have been entrusted to the care of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City, Oklahoma.
Walter is survived by his wife, Erma Joyce Sowders of Corn, Oklahoma; son, Bruce Sowders of Elk City, Oklahoma; step-son, Tommy Alex of Otisville, Michigan; daughter, Jacque L. Fleshman and her husband, Bob of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Bobby Fleshman and his wife, Allison of Appleton, Wisconsin and Cindi Jackman and her husband, Mike of Menasha, Wisconsin; one great grandchild, Zane Robert Jackman of Menasha, Wisconsin and twins on the way; sisters Deloris Atchley of Lawton, Oklahoma and Alice Martin of Elk City, Oklahoma.
He is preceded in death by parents Walter and Bessie Sowders; daughter, Joyce Sowders; brother, Claude Sowders; infant brother, Charles Sowders; and sisters, Mattibell Knight and Francis Fanchier.
