TOMBERLIN, Gerald

Gerald Tomberlin was born August 9, 1927 in Atwood, Oklahoma to Velma and R.L. Tomberlin. He passed away July 15, 2012 at his home east of Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 6 days.
Gerald moved to Strong City, Oklahoma when he was a young boy. He attended and graduated from Strong City School where he was a very good athlete. He was excellent basketball player and was accomplished in track, holding the Roger Mills County record for Pole Vaulting. He remained in Strong City and was married to Ila Grace Lee at Hammon, OK on August 12, 1948. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad until joining the U.S. Marine Corp and served his country during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge, he returned to Strong City and resumed working for Santa Fe. They later moved to Elk City and lived there until 1962 when they moved east of Sayre where he began a dairy operation. He ran the dairy for 37 years and after closing it, he still continued to raise cattle.
He is survived by his wife, Ila, of the home; 1 son, Gale Tomberlin and wife, Nelda, Sayre, OK; 2 grandchildren, Gala Ila Grace Tomberlin, and Jerra Lee Tomberlin; 2 brothers, Bill Tomberlin and wife, Glenda, Alva, OK and Leon Tomberlin, Marble Falls, TX; several nieces, nephews an d a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held July 18, 2012 at 10:30 am at Rose Chapel officiated by Kendall Hamilton. Burial will be at Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service. Condolences can be made online at www.whineryfs.com
