TURNER, Thelma Mae

Funeral services for Thelma Mae Turner will be held Wednesday, May 14, 1997 at 2:00 pm. in the Rose Chapel with Tom Cooksey officiating.
Thelma, the daughter of Mollie Belle and John Milton Higgins was born September 27, 1906 in Lone Oak, OK and passed away May 11, 1997 in the Sayre Memorial Hospital at the age of 90 years, seven months and 14 days.
Thelma graduated from Shattuck High School in 1925. She was a graduate of O.B.U. in 1927 and received a B.A. degree from Central State College in Edmond, OK in 1939. She taught school at Altus and Lone Wolf. She married Dick Turner on December 31, 1933 in Tipton, OK.  She continued teaching in Fargo, OK before teaching in Cheyenne for 17 years. Thelma moved to Oregon and later California before retiring after teaching school for 39 years. She moved back to Western Oklahoma and has made her home in Sayre since 1974. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, one brother, one nephew and one niece.
She is survived by one niece, Neleeta Earl Samson of Monticello, AR and her extended family included, Brad and Glenda Whinery, Bradley and Chris Whinery, the residents and staff at Hensley Nursing Home.
Interment will be in the Sayre Doxey Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
