VAUGHAN, Jr. , Herbert "Junior"

“Junior” Herbert Vaughan, Jr. was born April 19, 1945 in Torrance, California to Mary Cathern and Herbert Oliver Vaughan, Sr. He passed away August 15, 2015 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 70 years, three months and 26 days. Living in numerous states including California, Missouri, Arkansas and his final venture in Oklahoma. Junior was the true definition of a simple man. A man’s man and committed hard working blue collar American. His passions included riding motorcycles and picking his guitars and singing. His nieces and nephews favorite request was Johnny Cash’s, ‘A Boy Named Sue’. His other hobbies included collecting guns, target practice and collecting assorted coins. The last twelve years you could find him and his best friend, Rowdy, a Chihuahua/Boston Terrier mix, walking laps around the park. Rowdy turns thirteen years old in January of 2016. They have both lived full lives with companionship of each other. Guilty pleasures used to include breakfast daily at Zoe’s Restaurant, a John Wayne movie and cold beer. Although he went cold turkey and quit the alcohol and cigarettes six years ago, he couldn’t quit the John Wayne addiction. His longest profession was with the City of Cheyenne as a maintenance worker, garbage truck operator and water superintendent duties. Generally known as slave work to most of us. He spent countless hours in blistering heat or in a trench in freezing conditions to make sure our town had water restored as quickly as possible. He was forced into early retirement on May 23, 2003 with 27 years of dedicated service to the patrons of Cheyenne. He will be forever missed by anyone he’s touched and will always remain in our hearts. Rest easy, “Roscoe”. Love your son, “Boss Hogg”. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jim Vaughan, three sisters, Linda Lane, Shirley Long and Beverly Long. He is survived by his son, Mark Vaughan and wife, Ky, Cheyenne, OK; one granddaughter, Davian Vaughan, two step grandchildren, Callie and Westen Stripland, one brother, Doug Vaughan, CourD’alene, ID; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 in the Fairview Cemetery, Durham, Oklahoma.
