Funeral services for Roy A. Young were held Tuesday, February 21, 1993 at 2:00 p.m. in the Martin Funeral Chapel with Rev. A.L. Martin officiating.
Roy was born March 16, 1911 in Piedmont, OK and passed away Saturday, February 20, 1993 at the age of 81.
He attended Edmond and Oklahoma City schools and at the age of 19 moved to his grandfather’s farm near Berlin where he also attended school for a while. He farmed there continuously until his death.
On February 7, 1946, he married Julia French and they established their home in Erick, OK. They operated the Erick Hospital from 1946 to 1970 when it was converted to a retirement center. In 1965 they established a nursing home in Erick, OK. In 1968 they operated the Sayre Retirement Center and continued that management until 1980. Roy operated several other enterprises but farming and ranching were his main love.
Survivors include his wife, Julia of the Sayre home; his children, Dorcas Lucille Malony of Central Point, OR; Ervin Frank Young of Kingfisher, OK; Bessie Merle Johnston and Wanda Sue Jones both of Central Point OR; one sister, Emma Warkinten of Fort Worth, TX; 12 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, one brother and two sisters.
Burial was in the Berlin Cemetery under the direction of Martin Funeral Home.
